i2CAT takes 5G to the Mobile World Congress

Barcelona, ​​February 20, 2018 - The i2CAT Foundation returns to the global reference event on mobile communications with the aim of showing its know-how in 5G technologies that allows solving the technological challenges defined by operators and providers of telecommunications services, entities of the industry and public administrations.

Attendees at the Mobile World Congress will discover other i2CAT capabilities such as 3D indoor positioning with VLP (Visible Light Positioning) solutions or new formats for creating and distributing immersive virtual content, which has been developed by the center and it is being experimented in several European projects like ImmersiaTV, VR Together or iMAC, all coordinated by i2CAT.

The i2CAT Foundation will have a space in the Government of Catalonia, located in Hall 5 (CS20) of the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via.

5G, opportunities of present and future

The new generation of 5G mobile networks will be essential for the explosion of the Internet of Things, Smart Cities and Industry 4.0. The i2CAT Foundation plays a leading role in the field of 5G technologies and participates in 8 of the 22 projects funded by the European Commission in Catalonia.

i2CAT collaborates with infrastructure operators in the development of Small Cells, conceived to be neutral and offer a shared use. The center also implements service orchestrator platforms that will allow the development of new value added services.

i2CAT is one of the founding members of the 5GBarcelona alliance. This will also be present at the MWC. Congress visitors that reach the Mobile World Capital Barcelona stand will be able to discover how this alliance will transform the metropolitan area of ​​Barcelona into an open and neutral laboratory for the validation and adoption of 5G technologies and services.

The i2CAT Foundation works with companies and public administrations in the development of 5G services such as the connected vehicle or medical emergencies, which will generate new business opportunities and greater benefits for citizens.
