The Next Generation Internet Forum arrives in i2CAT

Exploring the Trends, Priorities and Challenges of Building the NGI Ecosystem

13 September 2017, Barcelona

Today, the Internet is integral to almost every part of our existence, and will be even more so in the future. However, concerns on privacy or data protection issues are mounting, and risks and limitations are becoming more apparent. Private and public interests in the domain are huge, and may radically change the way the Internet works in the future.

These topics and more will be at the forefront of the discussion, as innovation and technology experts from across a variety of disciplines meet in Barcelona on September 13th, 2017, at the Next Generation Internet Forum.

The Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative, launched by the European Commission in autumn 2016, aims to shape the Future Internet as an interoperable platform ecosystem that embodies the values that Europe holds dear: openness, inclusivity, transparency, privacy, cooperation, and protection of data.

The NGI Forum in Barcelona will gather together prominent actors in the field, who are indeed paving the way to design, build and refine the Internet of tomorrow. Featuring eminent speakers from the public and private sectors, the Forum represents a unique opportunity to share knowledge with leading experts from across a variety of disciplines, including privacy and trust technologies, blockchain, decentralised data management, edge intelligence discovery and identification, and more.

“Participants will contribute to the dialogue on the best way to meet these ambitious goals, and contribute to mapping the Next Generation Internet ecosystem.” said Dr Monique Calisti, HUB4NGI Project Coordinator and one of the main organizers of the event. “The event will be structured using a mixture of talks by specialists, open discussions and interactive working groups, with an emphasis on stimulating discussion and the free exchange of ideas between members of the research community, SMEs & start-ups, industry, policy makers, and civil society.”
