The Ministry for Digital Policy and Public Administration, with the collaboration of the i2CAT Foundation and the Cybersecurity Catalan Agency, published a comparative study of the functional and security aspects of various videoconference tools, aiming to facilitate the decision regarding which one suits best the needs of particular and professional users. The report wanted to meet the demanding use of videoconference apps and serve as a guide to select the appropriate one and use it safely.
The report examines twelve videoconference solutions: Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Skype, WhatsApp, Cisco Webex, Google Meet, GoToMeeting, Microsoft Teams o Zoom. The analysis considers aspects like usability, simplicity, dynamism, or for professional use, the corporative administration of the tool, privacy, and cybersecurity. The report aims to become a starting point to understand the differences and characteristics of each of the analyzed platforms, besides offering good practices that can be useful for citizens, companies, and organizations.
The exponential use of ICT technologies and networks due to the pandemic made them essential in personal relations and for working remotely. Zoom had 10 million daily participants in December 2019, a number that elevated to 300 million in April and May 2020. Teams also increased 70% in these last months. These two cases forced supplier companies to meet the requirements and apply constant improvements to maximize functionality and optimize security on their products.
