This Saturday, 20th of March, at 07:07:12 h (Catalan hour) the first nanosatellite will take off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. This initiative is framed in the NewSpace Catalan Strategy<\/a>, focused on transforming the new space economy into a sector full of opportunities within the Catalan economy. The Catalan Government is committed to this growing sector, expected to generate 1,200 jobs in the next 4 years, and billing of around 280 million euros.<\/p>\n

The first nanosatellite is a CubeSat that will deploy IoT connectivity services around Catalonia. It will allow communications and data collection, especially in areas where there is no coverage of conventional terrestrial telecommunications networks. The name chosen for this nanosatellite is \u201cEnxaneta\u201d, and it has been developed by Open Cosmos and Sateliot through a contract tendered by IEEC (Institut d\u2019Estudis Espacials de Catalunya).<\/p>\n

This launching triggers the satellite missions in the NewSpace Catalan ecosystem, designed to benefit and maximize the opportunities of a new economic sphere, the NewSpace<\/a>, based on using small low orbit satellites and exploiting data, aiming to improve services.<\/p>\n

To disclose the opportunities that this sector offers to Catalonia, the Government has boosted the campaign “Catalunya, ens posem en \u00f2rbita”, which collects the declarations of a new generation of young people trained in Catalonia to develop R&I projects or work in the aerospace sector from our home.<\/p>\n
