It raises 4 challenges detected in water&#8217;s ecosystem management to be solved with innovative ICT solutions.<\/p>\n<p>The awards are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">1st place: 15.000 \u20ac + test pilot with ACA<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">2nd place: 5.000 \u20ac<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">3rd place: 3.000 \u20ac<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Challenge 1: Water\u2019s optimization in agriculture<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>How to get efficient water management to increase water availability?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The main water consumption comes from agriculture&#8217;s irrigation systems. A massive part of the water is lost due to evaporation and traditional irrigation systems, like aspersion and flooding. More efficient management would positively impact water availability.<\/p>\n<p>This challenge aims to develop an innovative solution to improve water&#8217;s control in agriculture.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Challenge 2: Optimal maintenance of the water flow<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>How to improve efficiency in the control of water use and ensure optimal river flows?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>ACA controls and manages the river flow to preserve the aquatic environment. The current system only identifies the flow &#8220;in situ&#8221;, and the control frequency is low. The correct flow throughout the year cannot be guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>This challenge aims to develop an innovative solution to improve water resource efficiency and provide management tools to guarantee optimal river flows.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Challenge 3: Treatment of pollutants<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>How to help to identify, trace, reduce, and treat pollutants in water systems?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Detecting \u201cemerging contaminants\u201d is one big challenge to solve in water management. The increasing demand for regenerated water claims for a better knowledge of these pollutants.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of this challenge is to develop an innovative solution to ease the identification, tra\u00e7ability, and\/or priority substances and emerging contaminants detected.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Challenge 4: Promote renewable energies<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>How to calculate and encourage using energy from renewable sources?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>There are 522 Sewage Treatment Plants that demand big energy consumptions to clean wastewater up. ACA&#8217;s Energy Saving and Efficiency Plan aim to decarbonize the Sanitation focused on the 137 Plants that consume 93% of the total energy.<\/p>\n<p>This challenge aims to develop an innovative ICT solution to monitor and process energy consumption.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9434 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i2cat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ElAlwiJXgAI4lEB-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1392\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is the<a href=\"https:\/\/i2cat.net\/open-call-for-the-new-edition-of-smartcatalonia-challenge-2\/?lang=ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> 7th edition<\/a> of the SmartCatalonia Challenge.
