Xavier is the first ICREA researcher hosted by the center<\/b><\/p>\n

In September, the i2CAT Foundation welcomed <\/span>Xavier Costa-P\u00e9rez<\/b><\/a> to its team, the <\/span>first <\/b>ICREA Research Professor<\/b><\/a>\u00a0hosted by the Catalan center.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Xavier Costa-P\u00e9rez research focuses on the <\/span>digital transformation of society (DX) driven by the interplay of mobile networks and AI<\/b>. At i2CAT, he will act as <\/span>Scientific Director<\/span><\/a>, focusing on <\/span>the need to expand the mobile ecosystem to incorporate industry verticals like automotive, manufacturing, smart-grids, and health.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Costa-Perez is also the <\/span>Head of 5G Networks R&D at NEC Laboratories Europe. He regularly publishes at top scientific venues and produces innovations which have received <\/span>several awards<\/b> for successful technology transfers, while participating in major European Commission R&D collaborative projects and contributing to <\/span>standardization bodies<\/b> such as 3GPP, ETSI NFV, ETSI MEC and IETF.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Previous experience includes multiple leadership positions both in industry and research organizations such as Deputy General Manager, Chief Researcher, Technology Board member, and Scientific Advisory Board Member. Xavier received both his <\/span>M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Telecommunications from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia<\/b> (UPC) in Barcelona and was the recipient of a national award for his Ph.D. thesis.<\/span><\/p>\n

ICREA is the <\/span>Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies<\/b>. It is a foundation promoted by the Catalan Government and guided by a Board of Trustees which was created in response to the need to seek new hiring formulas that would make it possible to compete with other research systems on a similar footing by focusing on hiring only the most talented and extraordinary scientists and academics.<\/span><\/p>\n

ICREA works hand in hand with Catalan universities and research centers to <\/span>integrate research professors in the Catalan research system<\/b>, offering permanent, tenured positions to researchers from all over the world to come and work in Catalonia. Over the years these positions have become a synonym of global academic excellence. ICREA employs 266 researchers in all fields of knowledge, from philosophers to astrophysicists, that perform their research in 48 different host institutions in Catalonia.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
