SUMMARY:Software & Standards for Smart Networks & Services 2026 (SNS4SNS)
DESCRIPTION:The Software Networks Research Group at i2CAT is pleased to announce its participation in the Software & Standards for Smart Networks & Services (SNS4SNS) 2026\, held at the ETSI headquarters in Sophia Antipolis\, France\, from 2 to 5 February. \nAs telecommunications move toward B5G and 6G\, the convergence of open-source software and industry standards is critical. Our researchers will lead tutorials and demonstrations focusing on network federation\, API exposure\, and intent-driven automation\, showcasing i2CAT’s contributions to a more interoperable and programmable network ecosystem. \nDetailed Programme & i2CAT Contributions\nMonday\, 2 February: Technical Tutorials\n\nTutorial SDG OpenOP: Consuming developer-friendly Network APIs as exposed by the open-source Operator Platform for the Telco Cloud (9:00 – 10:30). Instructors: Vasileios Theodorou (Intracom Telecom)\, Adlen Ksentini (EURECOM)\, and Cesar Cajas Parra (i2CAT). This hands-on session introduces OpenOP\, an ETSI open-source framework designed to federate B5G/6G testbeds. It demonstrates the translation of CAMARA APIs to southbound technologies—such as the OpenAirInterface 5G Core and Kubernetes-based edge platforms—using Transformation Functions to bridge the gap between vertical app providers and network functions.\n\nWednesday\, 4 February: Live Demonstrations & Interoperability\n\nDEMO 2 – 2bis: Demonstrating inter-platform federation for multi-operator edge application management Cesar Cornelio Cajas Parra presents a practical scenario of federation across two Open Operator Platforms (Open OPs). The demo illustrates how the Federation Manager (FM) enables an end-to-end workflow\, using CAMARA APIs and the Open SDK to manage edge application deployment across partner infrastructure.\nDemonstrating Open Operator Platform (Open OP) standardised testbed capability exposure in federated 5G/6G environments This live walkthrough shows how Open OP abstracts the complexity of 5G core networks and edge clouds. By exposing unified CAMARA APIs\, the platform validates its role in enabling automation and consistent service exposure in federated operator environments.\nDEMO 3 + POSTER: OpenCAPIF SDK in action: From CAMARA API exposure to consumption Claudia Carballo González presents this demo and accompanying poster\, “Facilitating interoperable API ecosystems: OpenCAPIF and CAMARA integration”. The session highlights the operational simplicity of the OpenCAPIF SDK\, showcasing a complete end-to-end flow where CAMARA APIs are exposed\, discovered\, and consumed in a secure and standardized manner.\n\n\nThursday\, 5 February: Intent-Driven Automation\n\nDEMO 16 + POSTER: Simplified network orchestration: an intent engine for CAMARA APIs Sergio Giménez presents this session alongside the poster “Intent-driven network automation with an Intent-engine\, CAMARA\, and OpenCAPIF for B5G/6G infrastructures”. The demonstration highlights a solution for dynamic network management where an intent engine leverages language models to translate high-level user goals into precise network actions\, managed through standardized CAMARA APIs and OpenCAPIF.\n\nResearch Posters\nThe following posters will be available throughout the event\, providing deep technical insights into our ongoing research and development: \n\nPOSTER 3: Federation enablement for multi-operator platforms: orchestrating services with the Open OP. Claudia Carballo González presents a federation framework that interconnects multiple operator platforms through an East-Westbound Interface (EWBI). This enables scalable cross-domain orchestration and resource sharing while decoupling federation logic from platform specifics.\nPOSTER 7: Rethinking NTN architecture: leveraging 6G-RUPA for scalable and energy-efficient LEO networks. Sergio Giménez introduces the 6G Recursive User Plane Architecture (6G-RUPA)\, which uses topological addressing to decouple node identity from location. This innovation significantly reduces forwarding table sizes and improves energy efficiency for satellite networks.\nPOSTER 10: An Open SDK for standardised testbed capability exposure in federated 5G/6G environments. Mohammadreza Mosahebfard details a modular SDK designed to simplify service orchestration across heterogeneous infrastructures. The SDK translates standardized CAMARA APIs into the native\, platform-specific APIs of underlying 5G core and edge systems.\n\nJoin our sessions and explore these innovations firsthand.
