Hack The Hospital edition is an online hackathon that connects the cities of Boston and Barcelona. The labs’ goal focuses on developing ideas to improve the hospital experience of the children staying at the Sant Joan de Déu and the Boston Children’s Hospital by exploring the potential of new technologies (XR/AI/IoT/5G)
During Hack The Hospital, 300 creative minds will be selected to work in 50 multidisciplinary and transatlantic teams to bring solutions to 5 challenges: education, mental health, socialization, entertainment, and family experience within the hospital environment
Organized by Garage Stories and Mobile World Capital Barcelona with the support of Cisco, IBM, GSMA, CaixaBank, 5G Barcelona, Barcelona Tech City, and MedVR – With the outstanding participation of the children staying at the Sant Joan de Déu and the Boston Children’s Hospital as active mentors and decisive role as part of the final jury!
This is a call to technologists, teachers, doctors, designers, communicators, psychologists, coders… whatever professional background you come from. The cruise will count on expert talks, the advice of international mentors, and the real stories of the expert kids staying at the Sant Joan de Déu and the Boston Children’s Hospital.

Schedule:
May 10-20 – expert talks (content will be recorded and uploaded after every talk)
May 21-23 – HACK THE HOSPITAL (hackathon weekend)
May 24 – final pitch and winner announcement
The lab will officially kick off Friday, May 21, at 3 pm Barcelona/9 am Boston until Sunday 23 May, 7 pm Barcelona/1 pm Boston, where the pitching will take place to select the 10 finalists (two per challenge)
By Monday 24 at 6 pm Barcelona/12 am Boston the finalists will be announced and a final pitch will take place in front of a jury board. The best two ideas will become the winners of Hack The Hospital
Teams:
Teams will work physically together with their teammates based in the same city, and online with their teammates based in the other city. Every day there will be online checkpoints and 30 minutes masterclasses to help teams develop their project from start to finish
Resources available:
The expected output of the lab is a pitch deck of the proposed idea that covers its value proposition, technical feasibility and development plan, and business model. It is also expected one 30 seconds to 1-minute concept video of the idea.
By the end of the journey, 2 best ideas will be presented at the Mobile World Capital stand under the framework of MWC Barcelona 2021 and will be developed at both hospitals!
