Last June 8th, the Port of Tarragona hosted the event “L’impacte de la tecnologia 5G en la indústria química i petroquímica”, organized by SmartCatalonia within the framework of the 5G Barcelona initiative.
The event gathered experts of the chemical, petrochemical and logistics industries to take a close look at the challenges and opportunities that digital advanced technologies can bring to these sectors.
Virtual solutions for training in hazardous environments and real-time monitoring solutions were some of the examples explored during the event in order to illustrate how the new generation of mobile connectivity will help enhance an industry so important for the region of Camp de Tarragona. The occasion also served as a meeting point between companies and industry representatives.
This was the last of the four meetings organized this year by the Secretariat for Digital Policies with the objective of strengthening different strategic sectors in Catalonia through technological innovation. The first event, which took place in Barcelona, focused on smart cities; the second, hosted in Girona, analyzed the opportunities of 5G for the tourism sector; finally, the third event, organized in Lleida, explored the opportunities that will emerge with the deployment of 5G in rural environments.
5GBarcelona, a public-private initiative working to transform the metropolitan area of Barcelona into an open city-wide lab for the validation and adoption of 5G technologies and applications in a real-life environment, supported these meeting. The initiative is powered by i2CAT, the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Hall, Mobile World Capital Barcelona, CTTC, Atos and UPC.
