  • 12 research centers and universities of Catalonia launch the project FEM-IoT to foster collaboration and develop new projects based on the Internet of Things.
  • The alliance, led by i2CAT, will develop two R&I projects with a total investment of 4M €

The i2CAT Foundation is taking part in the recently established project FEM-IoT, alongside 12 Catalan universities and R&I centers from the field of the Internet of Things (IoT). The project aims to promote transfer and research in IoT as a strategic and emerging sector. The IoT technologies are associated with social challenges like industrial competitiveness, sustainable mobility, reduction of the energetic consumption and the digitalization of the society.

The main goal of FEM-IoT is to become a laboratory platform for research and innovation in smart city infrastructure elements and all the resulting value-added services. Also, one of the most demanding use cases for the city will be included in the project, which is the autonomous and connected vehicle, contributing to one of the country’s leading industries: mobility.

The project consortium includes the BSC-CNS, the CTTC, the UPC, the UOC, the URV, the UPF, the Computer Vision Center (CVC), EURECAT, Leitat, IREC and CIMNE.

This project is co-financed with an investment of 1.997.659,90€ by the European Union Regional Development Fund within the framework of the FEDER Operational Program of Catalonia 2014-2020.
