i2CAT joins CERCAGINYS, the new access platform to the facilities of the 41 CERCA centres

i2CAT is part of CERCA-GINYS, an initiative that combines the scientific and technical experimental facilities of the 41 CERCA centres in Catalonia. CERCA-GINYS has created a platform that facilitates the discovery of the more than 190 experimental infrastructures that are part of the infrastructure, allowing both the Catalan scientific research community and industrial sector to benefit from the services delivered by cutting-edge facilities. CERCA-GINYS is also serving as a catalyst to increase the quality of its member facilities and the technical expertise of those operating them, fostering training programmes and knowledge exchange between the facilities management and operation staff.

Currently, i2CAT participates in the CERCA-GINYS community via its Virtual, Augmented and Extended Reality Lab, located at Vilanova i la Geltrú. The lab provides the following services:

Adequate equipment and infrastructure to carry out research and innovation in Virtual, Extended and Augmented Reality fields.
Preparation of demonstrators and pilots, including potential developments by external agents and/or collaborators.
Availability of innovative scientific contributions in the field of XR software, services and applications, such as i) platforms to make VR experiences accessible; ii) solutions to enhance TV services with VR content and multi-device environments; or iii) XR applications in the field of culture and, especially, multi-user volumetric holo-communications services, applicable to different XR sectors. The ideal framework for researching, validating and demonstrating solutions in Computer Vision, Cloud Computing, next-generation networks and Artificial Intelligence (AI) focused on XR solutions.
