Nowadays, the location of people, equipment, and objects are critical for the efficient use of resources and management of onsite events and trade fairs. Up to now, indoor location systems had been based on technologies such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, which provide insufficient precision. i2CAT’s Contact Tracing Solution relies on Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) technology, which allows data to be transmitted at high speed over short distances with a precision of less than 30 cm and low energy consumption.
Thus, this solution enables indoor real-time location tracking with high accuracy, allowing the monitoring of safety distances between visitors at trade fairs. The solution has been designed and developed by i2CAT in partnership with Fira de Barcelona, TIC Salut Social and Mobile World Capital.
Visitors wearing a badge with embedded UWB BLE technology are tracked by the antennas installed in the premises, and their position is periodically reported to a remote platform. The information collected allows the platform to measure the distance between visitors and subsequently raise an alert when safety distance is not maintained.
This solution can also be used for contact tracing if a visitor, exhibitor or staff member is diagnosed with Covid-19. By sampling and processing data in real-time, the system is capable of determining their contacts, including the location and the duration of the contact.
