ImAc (Immersive Accessibility)’s objective is to guarantee accessibility in immersive multimedia services, including 360º video, spatial audio and Virtual Reality (VR) content. This will allow to provide an adequate narrative, a greater and better access to information and usability, regardless the sensory and cognitive abilities of the users, their age, language, as well as any other possible handicaps. The accessibility services to be provided include: text subtitles, audio subtitles, audio description and videos with sign language interpreters, as well as user interfaces and appropriate support technologies. The ImAc project, coordinated by i2CAT, aims to make the immersive and accessibility functionalities configurable according to the needs and / or preferences of the users maintaining its compatibility with the technologies and formats used in the audiovisual sector.
The key action in ImAc will be to ensure immersive experiences are inclusive across different languages, addressing the needs of those with hearing and low vision problems, learning and age difficulties. The project consortium foresees these services consumed by a wider audience, for personal convenience, learning language and language therapy – accessible content can add significant value to these related areas.
