31st ACM International Conference on Multimedia

29 October 2023 // 3 November 2023

ACM Multimedia is the premier international conference in multimedia. It covers multiple emerging fields focusing on advancing the research and applications of many media, including but not limited to haptics, video, VR/AR, audio, speech, music, sensor and social data. This year, ACM Multimedia 2023 will be held in Ottawa, Canada, from October 29 to November 3. The ACM Multimedia 2023 offers an extensive in-person program consisting of technical sessions covering all aspects of the multimedia field via oral, video and poster presentations, tutorials, panels, exhibits, demonstrations, workshops, doctoral symposiums, multimedia grand challenges, brave new ideas on shaping the research landscape, and open source software competition.

On October 30, Sergi Fernández, director of the Media Internet research area at the i2CAT Foundation, will present the paper Addressing Scalability for Real-time Multiuser Holo-portation: Introducing and Assessing a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) for Volumetric Video. The paper, for the first time, presents the design and integration of a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) in a pioneering real-time holo-portation platform, supporting realistic and volumetric user representations (i.e., 3D holograms) to overcome the challenges of real-time-holo-portation (and Metaverse-like) services, such as scalability, interoperability and cost efficiency.
