Urban Air Mobility [BNEW 2022]
6 October 2022 - 11:00 // 12:00
Mapping current mobility megatrends that step into the global market, two major fields deserve attention as potential frontrunners of the rapid transition toward sustainable urban commuting and logistics: autonomous vehicles and Urban Air Mobility (UAM). In the field of urban mobility -as in any other- the purpose of massive investments in sector modernisation and digitisation is to serve society by revealing possibilities that have been so far out of reach. The added value is backed by hi-tech solutions that aim to improve safety, optimise resource consumption, manage space, and ensure passengers’ comfort in both areas. In other words, to bring urban and suburban commuting to a higher level and build smart cities, i.e., areas where technology supports residents and serves the common good. Discussing air mobility, the cutting-edge driven approach has significant potential to redefine the public realm and build a brand-new model of space we are living in. Different programme calls and city pilots on Urban Air Mobility are being launched and implemented in the European Union to create an environment where solutions can be tested, and experiences are continuously exchanged. it is key to ensure that the resources in place are being managed and used properly, taking advantage of a range of synergies resulting from cross-field activities and multi-stakeholders’ cooperation. The potential role of EIT Urban Mobility Special Interest Group (SIG) is to support all the actors in the complex process of mobility transition we are facing and to create an ecosystem to facilitate its development, in which all views and experiences are included.
