Contribution on 6G for the deployment of satellite networks in the paradigm of non-terrestrial networks (NTN)

The project

The expected result of 6GSatNet is the contribution over 6G for the deployment of satellite networks in the paradigm of non-terrestrial networks (NTN). To this end, the project leverages the construction of a 5G core compatible with non-terrestrial networks, as well as the development of new routing and access medium protocols.

This subproject seeks to address multiple challenges in the ground segment that must be addressed before deploying Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN). Among them, the subproject has focused on three:

  1. An improved 5G network core
  2. A unified service orchestrator
  3. An AI-based constellation planning environment

This subproject aims to contribute to the deployment of heterogeneous satellite networks in the Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) architecture. Among the different technological challenges that still remain to be resolved in this area, the subproject addresses the following:

  1. A multi-device Inter Satellite link Device (ISL) system with enhanced communications protocols
  2. An AI-based inter-satellite link device
  3. Contributions to security mechanisms for Intersatellite Communications

The subproject focuses on addressing multiple challenges in the service segment that must be addressed before implementing Non-Terrestrial Networks. Among them, this subproject has focused on the following:

  1. Development of a flexible payload
  2. Development of new communication mechanisms to serve a large number of users
  3. Contribution to integrate quantum key distribution services into 6G
