  • The Holomit holoportation technology, the main product of the new spin-off Volum Technologies, will be available for testing at the research centre’s stand
  • i2CAT will be part of the Generalitat de Catalunya pavilion during the Integrated Systems Europe congress from February 4 to 7, section Full Campus CS100, stand 22

The i2CAT research centre will participate in the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) congress from February 4 to 7 to present its leadership in research applied to the audiovisual market locally and in Europe. The centre will showcase the evolution of cutting-edge technologies, specifically holoportation technologies and multi-camera experiences. The innovations that i2CAT will present during the fair are examples of the technology transfer process carried out at the centre, from the initial research phase to commercialising the resulting product, technology licensing to third parties or creating a spin-off company.

i2CAT recently announced the creation of a spin-off company called Volum Technologies, which will be launched before the summer of 2025 and is the result of four years of work, research and innovation and an investment of 3.7 million euros. Volum will offer a first product that includes hardware and software (Holomit© Booth) for approximately €40,000 per node. It is a hyper-realistic, multi-modal social platform for XR with a specific development unit (SDK). The Holomit platform provides high-quality 3D holograms from standard commercial cameras. The service captures the video, compresses it, streams it and orchestrates the sessions.

The creation of Volum Technologies is an example of how the technology transfer extracts the full potential of European research, valorises pre-products with Catalan funds (Knowledge Industry and RIS3CAT Communities) and transfers the knowledge to companies in the local ecosystem or generates new spin-offs. Another recent example is the Sync-X technology for multichannel production, distribution, and consumption experiences that are compatible with different devices. It has been licensed to the Catalan company Into Reality, which offers an interactive web player to consume audiovisual content. With the Sync-X solution, Into Reality can incorporate interactive and multiscreen consumption experiences of significant events in its catalogue.

Visitors to the i2CAT stand at ISE 2025 (Full Campus CS100, stand 22) will learn about the pioneering products for the audiovisual sector developed at the centre and experience Holomit live. They will do so through VR glasses that allow them to interact with a 3D volumetric representation of an expert who will explain the three prominent use cases of the technology (for commerce, health and business).

i2CAT will also exhibit Holomit as part of a Metaverse demonstrator in 6G environments developed within the framework of the European 6G-BRICKS project, which will be on display at the stand of the Catalan company IQUADRAT (Full Campus, CS100, 9). The exhibition will integrate Holomit, which allows remote users to holoport in the Metaverse, with cutting-edge technologies on virtual production such as InfinitySet, from the Valencian company Brainstorm Multimedia, demonstrating their joint potential to facilitate virtual television debates with several people geographically distributed thanks to 6G networks.

Additionally, people who visit ISE can experience the Sync-X technology at the Into Reality company booth (Full Campus, Innovation Park— CS686), where there will be an on-demand demonstration of a multi-camera view of the Euphoria show, in which viewers can choose from different cameras, and another demonstration of synchronised multi-screen content with a main screen (TV) and a second device (tablet, mobile).
