6GTWINROAD
6G technologies for the development of digital twins for connected and autonomous mobility (CAM) on the roads.

The project

6GTWINROAD proposes the use of 6G Technologies that allow the creation of digital twins for connected and autonomous mobility (CAM) on the roads. For this purpose, state-of-the-art technologies will be used, such as simulation platforms to evaluate the characteristics of the mobile network in urban and interurban mobility environments, advanced HD maps with volumetric information, and artificial vision algorithms to estimate traffic conditions.

This subproject focuses on the design based on artificial intelligence and machine learning (IA/ML) techniques of the control plane of network slices, dedicated to V2X/Digital Twin services in a vehicular network with advanced 5G or 6G connectivity and with cloud computing capabilities.

The objective of this subproject is to analyze the impact of 6G technologies on both current networks and Traffic Management Centers (TMC) to support new CCAM (Cooperative, connected and automated mobility) applications, which are strongly focused on cooperative behavior and that depend on strict latency and/or bandwidth network parameters. In addition, the evolution of vehicular communication technologies that will be considered in the 6G time frame is studied, helping to align and adapt future TMC centers to the requirements of the future V2X.

This subproject investigates the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to:

  1. Support the development of a digital twin of a road vehicle environment
  2. Demonstrate the sensing capability of 5G/6G technologies for object detection
  3. Integrate 5G/6G sensing technologies into realistic vehicle environments that make use of Cloud and Edge Computing technologies
  4. Contribute to the digital transformation of the automotive sector

This subproject studies the concept of Digital Twins, consisting of the virtual representation of a physical object. Specifically, in the field of V2X communications, a Digital Twin consists of a sophisticated tool for the evaluation of cooperative use cases (Day 3+), allowing the recreation of complex scenarios in which vehicles collaborate and cooperate with each other. Digital Twins require information from the real world to reproduce situations and analyse potential use cases in mobility scenarios related to urban and interurban environments.
