Dr. Ernesto Fontes Pupo earned his B.Sc. in Telecommunications and Electronics and M.Sc. in Digital Systems from CUJAE (Cuba), and his Ph.D. Summa Cum Laude in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the University of Cagliari (Italy) in 2024. His research focused on multiuser diversity management for multicast and broadcast services in 5G. He later worked as a postdoctoral researcher on EU-funded projects in next-generation wireless networks, media delivery, QoS/QoE, and AI-based communications. He has (co-)authored over 30 publications and received the IEEE BTS Best Student Paper Award. He developed an open-source Link-Level Simulator for heterogeneous 5G scenarios. Since April 2025, he has been a researcher at i2CAT (MediaTech), first in the Volumetric Capture and Reconstruction team, and currently as teamlead of the Research-Networking group. His interests include edge-assisted volumetric streaming, immersive media, low-latency applications, and 5G/6G systems.
