Collaborative innovation spaces for the deployment of advanced digital technologies in Catalonia
The Àrees Digitals initiative fosters the integration of cutting-edge digital technologies across Catalonia as part of the Government’s Territorial Strategy for Social and Digital Innovation.
Its mission is to drive digital transformation in different territories of Catalonia, bringing advanced technologies such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence, and IoT closer to companies, institutions, and citizens. Through awareness-raising activities, pilot projects, and collaboration with local stakeholders, the programme seeks to boost the digital economy, improve public services, and create new opportunities across the region.
The initiative is composed of 9 Àrees Digitals, each playing a vital role in advancing digital transformation at the regional level:
By working closely with local stakeholders, Àrees Digitals identifies regional challenges and develops pilot projects, proof-of-concept trials, co-creation workshops, and training programmes. These initiatives combine research expertise with the capabilities of companies specialising in Advanced Digital Technologies (ADT).
The initiative also promotes digital empowerment and citizen training, fosters collaboration among territorial actors, and ensures that the social and economic benefits of digital innovation reach every corner of Catalonia — supporting inclusive economic growth and strengthening key regional industries.
Àrees Digitals is an initiative promoted by the Government of Catalonia, through the Secretariat for Digital Policies, with the support of Mobile World Capital Barcelona and i2CAT research center.
