Initiative

Innovation Programme for the Transformation of Society and Economy

A program driven by the Secretariat for Digital Policies of the Government of Catalonia within the framework of Nuclear Transition Fund

This initiative leverages nuclear transition funds to promote a sustainable, fair, and technologically advanced socio-economic transformation in areas affected by the closure of the Ascó and Vandellòs nuclear plants.

At i2CAT, we implement the management of this program, which aims to turn these regions into benchmarks for technological innovation, sustainability, and social cohesion, while fostering local talent and promoting high-value economic activity.

The program is deployed across Terres de l’Ebre, Camp de Tarragona, and Ponent, structured around four main strategic pillars:

  • Incubate Digital Talent: Launching initiatives to attract, train, and support technology projects rooted in the local territory.
  • Digital Innovation Hub: Expanding CoebreLab into a leading technology laboratory in Southern Europe, allowing local companies to innovate without leaving the region.
  • Use Cases with Advanced Digital Technologies: Applying advanced digital technologies to tackle real challenges in sustainability, healthcare, and agri-food.
  • AINA Intel·ligència Territorial: Launching an AI challenge in Catalan to foster digital inclusion, cultural heritage preservation, and linguistic diversity.

Through this transformative approach, the program seeks to create jobs, attract talent and companies, and position the territory as a hub for rural innovation with a territorial and gender perspective.
