Mr. Sergi Fernández (MSc) is a computer scientist & engineer and since July 2007 holds a Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence, by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, specialized in the area of Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing. He incorporated into i2CAT in May 2008, assisting the coordination of i2CAT’s Audiovisual Cluster and during his first 4 years in the company he led i2CAT’s involvement in different projects. In 2013 he is promoted as director of the Media & Internet Unit. Since then he has participated and lead the Media Area of i2CAT in more than 100 contract service and research projects. He has an outstanding track record in terms of research management. In particular, he managed as Project Coordinator 1 CIP project (TV-Ring) and 3 H2020 (ImmersiaTV, VR-Together and ImAc), and has participated as main i2Cat representative in more than 40 research and innovation projects. In the private domain he has lead the development of different solutions for video distribution & processing, as well as virtual and augmented reality applications in the last years. In 2017 he promoted the incorporation of i2CAT as shareholder of Watchity, a start-up providing real-time video solutions for UGC in journalism. In 2018 he was elected as Strategy Vice chair of the NEM initiative, a European Technology Platform that represents the interests of the Cultural and Creative Industries and the Networked Electronic Media Industry across Europe in front of the European Commission. Also in 2018 he was appointed as General Chair of the ACM TVX 2020 conference, the world-wide leading conference in the field of TV experiences. Sergi’s research interests are centred on interactive systems and new media and content formats (VR, AR, Second Screen Apps, 360 video, light fields) as well as network based media processing systems.
