The APEXS project aims to develop and test a prototype for the detection and recognition of large carnivores (brown bear and wolf) linked to a real-time remote alert system, as well as an automatic device for scaring away these species.

Estimated impact

The system will consist of a camera trap, a processing and communication module, a power supply module, and the scaring system. The system will work as follows: Once the camera trap records a detection, it will be sent to the processing module. This module, using embedded artificial intelligence, will analyze whether the detected subject is a bear. If it is, an alert will be generated and sent through the satellite communications module. This alert will be received by the end-user, informing them that a bear has been detected. The system may also include a scaring module where, once the detection is confirmed to be a bear, the scaring process will be initiated.
