On May 10, Wilson Ramírez, Program Manager at i2CAT and PhD in Computer Architecture, and Roberto Viola, associate researcher at Vicomtech and PhD in Telecommunications Engineering, offered the session “Virtualization: Concepts, Experimentation Infrastructures and Applications” to the students of the Degree in Computer Engineering of the Polytechnic School of Engineering of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), located on the Vilanova i la Geltrú Campus.
During the session, both researchers explained to the students some of the virtualization tools available today, such as Openstack, Kubernetes and Virtual Box, and their application in experimentation infrastructures such as those that are being developed withing the framework of the Open-VERSO and Fed4Fire projects. “Virtualization opens the way to new network and computing infrastructures for scientific experimentation”, they pointed out.
This educational activity is part of the Open-VERSO project, led by both research centres and Gradiant. The main objective of this project, which is part of the RED CERVERA Strategic Programme on Research and Development, is to address the design of an architecture of a comprehensive 5G network, evolvable to 6G technologies, and aimed at creating a federated ecosystem that enables knowledge transfer to the industrial sector.
If you want to find out more about the Open-VERSO project, on May 26, Carolina Fernández, Senior R&D Engineer at i2CAT, will participate in the Workshop “5G Horizontal Enablers and Vertical Demonstrators”.
This session aims to disseminate results in the field of 5G infrastructures and technologies, attracting interest in the implemented open experimentation infrastructure. The presentation covers the technical developments of the Open-VERSO project and demonstrates them as part of different applications tested on the infrastructure.
