The chosen solution will be tested at the Port de Barcelona to help the main maritime infrastructure in Catalonia manage waste in a more efficient way

The Portuguese startup 3D Modelling Studio has won the Pilot Award in the 4th edition of SmartCatalonia Challenge. This year, the Ministry for Digital Policy and Port de Barcelona have joined forces to promote the open innovation contest within the ecosystem of the Port, where 3D Modelling Studio has won the opportunity to live-test its solution.

The project presented by 3D Modelling Studio consists of a system prepared to automatically measure the volume and weight of the waste generated by ships and delivered while docked at the Port de Barcelona. The company has designed a program to analyze waste containers through a sensor system that remotely calculates their volume and classifies the waste. Thanks to this solution, the port will improve efficiency in the management of the more than 100.000 cubic meters of waste that ships unload yearly.

Smalle Tecnologies, Deep Solutions and Drone Steel were also awarded at the Ceremony with 5.000€, 3.000€ and 2.000€ respectively.

The event was hosted by Port de Barcelona at its booth inside the SIL 2019 Congress and was attended by the director general of Digital Society, Joana Barbany, and the president of the Port de Barcelona, Mercè Conesa.
