Alfonso Egio is a Senior R&I Engineer and Tech Lead within the Cybersecurity & Blockchain Research Group at i2CAT. Holding a Master's degree in Physics from Universitat de Barcelona and a Master in Blockchain Technologies from UPC, Alfonso Egio specializes in bridging theoretical cryptography with innovative solutions into research and innovative challenges. His primary focus areas include i) Applied Cryptography; ii) Blockchain and Distributed Systems; iii) Decentralized Digital Identities.

His work is centered on ensuring privacy, security, and trust in emerging digital infrastructures:

Confidential and Verifiable Computing (CVC): He contributes to novel developments in CVC, utilizing technologies like Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) and Proxy Re-Encryption (PRE) for confidential data sharing and verifiable, private computation.

Digital Identity and Hybrid Authentication: Alfonso has presented on the crucial topic of Securing Digital Identities: The Power of Hybrid Authentication, showcasing systems that combine traditional login methods with advanced public-key cryptography and smart wallets (e.g., leveraging Ethereum's ERC-4337 Account Abstraction) to eliminate single points of failure and enhance security.

R&D Project Leadership: As a Technical Project Lead, he is a key contributor to numerous EU-funded proposals and projects, including the 5GaaS project, demonstrating his commitment to collaborative, European-level research initiatives. He has also authored research on topics such as wireless service accounting based on Ethereum state channels.
