Last week in Malaga, the i2CAT Research & Innovation Centre stood out as a Silver Sponsor at the prestigious EuCNC & 6G Summit 2026. From Booth n.98 on the exhibition floor, the centre hosted an active stand featuring live demonstrations of its latest breakthroughs in Non-Terrestrial Networks, Immersive Multimedia, and AI-driven systems. A major highlight at the booth was a real-time holographic call between Barcelona and Málaga, presented by Mario Montagud and Mohamad Hjeij, researchers from the Media Technologies Research Group, using the Totems developed by the spin-off Volum Technologies.
Beyond the exhibition, i2CAT demonstrated strong institutional leadership. Jesús Alonso-Zarate, Research & Innovation Director, presented the centre’s key outcomes and capabilities gained through Spain’s national UNICO I+D and UNICO Infrastructures (6G Programme), highlighting the strategic public-private partnerships forged across the country.
The centre’s experts also drove the summit’s technical agenda through high-level sessions and workshops. Scientific Director Xavier Costa Pérez chaired a special session bridging the gap between Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) research and industrial standardization. Meanwhile, Pouria Sayyad Khodashenas, Director of the Software Networks research group, convened a session on the NetworldEurope Strategic Research Agenda to outline the future of AI-native 6G infrastructure.
Alongside the core sessions, the summit included contributions from major collaborative research initiatives. This included targeted workshop presentations and live demonstrations of the SUNRISE-6G European project, as well as dedicated workshop sessions and exhibition demos from the iTrust6G European project.
Furthermore, i2CAT highlighted key milestones by hosting presentations of key deliverables from the INSTINCT project. The centre’s researchers also led several impactful paper and poster presentations linked to other key initiatives, such as 6GStarLab, CERTAIN, and CUSTODES, underscoring i2CAT’s pivotal role in shaping both the research and functional framework of the emerging 6G ecosystem.
