Equality and diversity

At i2CAT, we strive to ensure equity, diversity, and respect in all areas of the centre, creating spaces where there is no room for any kind of discrimination.

In this sense, i2CAT considers equality not only from a gender perspective but also from a broader one, encompassing factors such as origin or nationality, age, various family situations, cultural diversity, religion and beliefs, and sexual orientation. We firmly believe that these factors cannot and should not be barriers to talent in the professional environment, but rather are values to be promoted and that enrich us as a centre. Diversity is a differential value, an added value.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development identifies science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as key drivers in advancing more inclusive and equitable societies. Some of these Sustainable Development Goals, such as gender equality (SDG 5) and the reduction of inequalities (SDG 10), are directly related to equality plans and specific measures for the LGBTI community. In this sense, i2CAT aligns with these goals to promote a more just, sustainable and egalitarian world.

The report “Women in ICT 2025” by the Catalan Women’s Institute shows that women’s representation in the ICT sector was 27,4%, compared with 72,6% for men. Therefore, there is a long way to go to achieve a fair and equitable sector. We must continue working to advance towards equal opportunities for all people.

72.6% of people employed in the ICT sector are men, and 27.4% are women

Coinciding with the International Day of Girls in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) 2026, the Catalan Institute for Women (ICD) published the Women in ICT 2025 dossier, prepared by the Gender Equality Observatory using the latest data on women in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector. The report shows that inequalities persist in terms of education and employment. The underrepresentation of women in engineering studies and in more technical vocational training creates a domino effect that affects the entire tech labour market, which limits women’s presence in strategic and high-value-added areas.
