TDA 5G Rural

TDA 5G Rural aims to define a deployment model for 5G technology that maximizes performance while minimizing investment, in order to accelerate rollout in rural areas of Catalonia and improve their competitiveness and services.

The main objective is to bridge the digital divide in Catalonia through a new model based on public-private collaboration and active infrastructure sharing.

TDA 5G Rural is a research and innovation project promoted by the Government of Catalonia as part of its Digital Catalonia strategy and led by i2CAT Research Center.

The main purpose of TDA 5G Rural is to define the optimal technical and economic model for deploying 5G in rural areas of Catalonia under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework involving operators, manufacturers, and public authorities. This new model will enable:

• Reducing the digital divide in rural areas
• Ensuring 5G deployment in the shortest possible time
• Complementing traditional network deployments
• Stimulating the industrial ecosystem
• Improving services for citizens
