At i2CAT, we believe public service and innovation go hand in hand. We research and develop technologies that help public institutions evolve towards smarter, more efficient, and inclusive service models. Specialising in the application of emerging digital solutions to public sector challenges, we focus on turning innovation into real public value.

Our goal is to bring advanced technologies—such as AI, data spaces, edge computing, and connectivity infrastructures—into the core of government operations. We design and pilot digital services that respond to institutional needs, improve decision-making, and place citizens at the centre of the transformation process. Our work integrates applied research, co-creation methodologies, and strategic support to help administrations assess their challenges and implement viable, scalable solutions.

We support the deployment of digital innovation across all levels of government—local, regional, and national—ensuring that technological progress contributes to territorial equity, institutional resilience, and the construction of a sustainable digital society.

Technologies and services

Strategic Programmes for Public Innovation: Our teams work closely with public administrations to define and deploy strategic innovation programmes that accelerate the digital transformation of government. As a key partner of the Government of Catalonia, we actively contribute to initiatives such as Catalonia.AI, the Digital Catalonia Alliance (DCA), and GovTech Catalonia.
GovTech Catalonia: Through this initiative, we foster open innovation between institutions, startups, SMEs, and research centres to co-create agile solutions for real public challenges, helping administrations become more efficient, adaptable and citizen-centric. GovTech Territori brings this collaboration closer to municipalities, helping them identify needs, launch open calls, and validate technological solutions in real environments.
Applied Innovation for Citizen Services: We develop real-world solutions that respond to the evolving needs of public services. Some of our most impactful initiatives include the use of AI for image recognition in inspection processes, satellite-based systems for agriculture and water monitoring, and the OAC Mòbil—Catalonia’s first mobile citizen service unit, equipped with 5G and satellite connectivity, designed to serve remote and rural communities.
Territorial Equity & Digital Cohesion: At i2CAT, we support the creation of inclusive services, help build local digital capacity, and contribute to reducing the urban-rural digital divide. Our focus on territorial equity translates into tailored support for municipalities, enabling them to participate fully in the digital transformation and to generate sustainable local impact.
