For i2CAT, the space sector revolves around one keyword: communications. We research technologies that contribute to creating a new paradigm: connectivity anywhere and anytime.
This new paradigm will bring new use cases to solve diverse connectivity challenges. To achieve this, at i2CAT, we work on the intersection between terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks. We investigate how to adapt, integrate and deploy terrestrial networks in space while offering a transparent experience to users.
The New Space Economy Congress (October 1st and 2nd) is the principal event for Catalonia’s aerospace sector and New Space ecosystem, with more than forty participating experts and the representation of leading companies in the industry. La Llotja de Mar will once again host this meeting organised by the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the Generalitat de Catalunya.
i2CAT is a congress partner, and we will be there in a dedicated space where attendees can learn about our research in space communications. As a multi-technology centre, the value proposition in the space sector integrates the knowledge and experience gained in international and local research with mobile and wireless networks, IoT technologies and devices, artificial intelligence applied to networks, cyber security and software networks.
The Head of Space—Innovation & Business, Clàudia Mateo, will moderate the session “The Emergence of New Satellite Constellations Shaping the Future of Communications” (October 1st, 11:30 am), with Rivada Space Networks, Hispasat, Sateliot, and Indra participating.
From October 7 to 10, Barcelona New Economy Week features its latest vertical, Aviation. This thematic vertical focuses on the new aviation economy, in which sustainability and innovation play a fundamental role.
Clàudia Mateo will also moderate the round table “The Industrial Revolution of New Space” (October 10, 10 a.m.), including Albora Technologies, Spascat Technologies, FACTUAL, and Earthpulse.
These events are framed in the most prominent yearly global meeting on space: World Space Week, which will take place from 4 to 10 October. It is a week of international celebration of science and technology that the UN declared in 1999 to commemorate the launch, on October 4, 1957, of the Sputnik 1 satellite, which paved the way for space exploration, and the signing of what is known as the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967.
