Research & Innovation

With over two decades of experience, i2CAT is a key player in the European research and innovation ecosystem for advanced digital technologies.

The centre has participated in over 135 European projects, securing more than €36 million in funding from the European Commission since 2006.

According to the latest report from CDTI Innovación (Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain), i2CAT ranks among Spain’s top 15 research institutions for participation in Horizon Europe (2021–2023). During this period, the centre secured 24 projects worth over €10 million. i2CAT stood out in Cluster 4 ‘Digital, Industry & Space’, leading 20 projects and attracting nearly €9 million, making it the 5th most-funded research centre in Catalonia for this cluster. In the 6G SNS JU programme, i2CAT ranked 3rd in Spain by participation, with 10 projects receiving over €4 million in funding.

The i2CAT Research Centre prioritises digital transformation. Based on its expertise in international participation in ICT (Information and Communication Technology) research and development initiatives, it aims to invigorate both social and productive sectors.

Fostering collaboration with private organisations drives market innovation, ensuring that cutting-edge technological advances empower companies to thrive and create meaningful solutions and products.
